Women's Outdoor Track and Field Finishes Second at Amy Adams Memorial

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team claimed a second place finishe at the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational, hosted by fellow Ohio Athletic Conference school Muskingum University on the Johnson Family Track.

BW was originally scheduled to compete at the Goucher (Md.) T&F Classic, which was cancelled as a result of inclement weather received over the past week. Only the throwers were originally scheduled to compete at Muskingum but the rest of the Yellow Jackets were graciously allowed to compete as well.

The Yellow Jacket women also placed second of 14 teams with 139.5 total points while Case Western Reserve finished first with 156 points.

Junior All-OAC sprinter Grace Nemeth (Medina) swept the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes for the second meet in a row, winning in a season-best 12.74 seconds and a career-best 26.21 seconds, respectively. Freshman distance runner Rebecca Penrose (Springfield/Shawnee) won the 400-meter dash in 1:01.39 while senior sprinter Carlynn Arthur (Danville) placed third in the same event in a career-best time of 1:02.96. Sophomore All-OAC runner Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) broke the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational record in the 1,500-meter run, winning in 4:45.16. Brennan's 1,500-meter time is currently the 18th-fastest in Division III. In her first 3,000-meter steeplechase event, freshman distance runner Hastings Marek (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) won in a time of 11:52.79, which ranks as the 13th-best time in the country, while sophomore distance runner Jordan Dascani (Toledo/Springfield) took third in a career-best time of 13:43.41.

In the field, sophomore All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon, freshman thrower Carol Foster (Diamond/Southeast) and sophomore All-OAC thrower Jillian Roberts (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) swept the top three spots in the discus throw with marks of 134'2", 125'5" and 121'0", respectively. Buckhannon's career-best mark and Foster's career-best mark are the sixth best and 18th best throws in Division III. Buckhannon also placed second in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 150'11", ranking 13th in the nation, and third in the shot put with a 38'2.25" mark. Senior thrower Madeline Ziccardi also third in the hammer throw by tossing 142'7". Freshman jumper Abby Lewicki (Medina/Highland) was the runner-up in the pole vault when she cleared a season-best and career-best mark of 9 feet, 6.25 inches.

BW will be back in action on Friday, March 30, when the Yellow Jackets head south to compete in the "Coach Rob" Invitational, hosted by Wittenberg University on the Earl F. Morris Track.
