BW Men's Tennis Team Beats Mt. Union in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival the University of Mount Union, 6-3, today at the "Pop" Collins Courts in its last match of the regular season. The 2014 OAC Tournament begins April 29 with the OAC Final Four taking place at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio on May 2-3. The winner of the OAC Tournament advances to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

With its win, BW improves to 17-3 overall and 7-2 in the OAC.  Mt. Union falls to 10-4 overall and 4-3 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets led 2-1 after doubles play as the No.1 tandem of sophomores Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Liberty) won, 8-0, and improved to 20-4 overall, 17-1 in dual matches and 7-1 in the OAC. The No.3 duo of senior Zach Elbin (Findlay/ Senior) and sophomore Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) came back from a 6-1 deficit to win 9-7 and improve to 15-4 overall.

In singles action, BW won four of six matches to secur the win. Junior No.1 player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) won, 6-1 and 6-1 and improved to 13-8 overall. Harris won 6-0 and 6-2 at No.2 to improve to 16-6 overall. Ganim won at No.3 by a 7-6 (7-1 in the tie-breaker) and 6-4 to improve to 19-4 overall. Freshman Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/ Bexley) won at No.5 by a 7-5 and 6-4 count to improve to 16-8 this season.

The BW men won the 2012 OAC Tournament title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
