HILTON HEAD, South Carolina – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated NCAA Division II Millersville (Pa.) University, 7-2, on the third day of its annual Spring Break Trip to the Hilton Head ennis and Beach Club. BW (7-1 overall and 3-1 on the trip) plays one more match tomorrow on its trip.
The Yellow Jackets led 2-1 after doubles play as the number one tandem of junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC student-athlete
Peter Harris (Akron/Richfield Revere) and junior All-OAC player
Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange), this week's OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, won 8-4. The win was the 53rd in the doubles careers of
Harris and
Ganim who have played together their entire collegiate careers. The 53 wins ranks them 24th all-time in school history with a 53-17 record. In addition, the No. 3 tandem of junior
Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and sophomore
Brian Carano (Akron/ Revere) won, 8-3.
In singles action, BW won five of six matches.
Harris won at No. 1 by the scores of 6-2 and 6-1. The victory was the 54th of his career and moved him into a tie for 19th on the all-time list with Ryan McCartney (2003-2007).
Harris is 54-13 in his career.
Ganim won at No. 2 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-3. The victory was the 51st of his career and moved him one shy of the Top-25 in school history. He is 51-13 in his career.
At No.3 singles, sophomore
Nathan Katz (Bexley/ Upper Arlington), last week's OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, won by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0. In addition,
Fredrick won at No. 5 by the scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 1-0 (10-7 in the tie-breaker).
Carano won at No. 6 by the scores of 6-3 and 6-0.
BW plays the Catholic (Washington, D.C.) University of America on Wednesday, March 11 at 11:30 a.m. in its final match in Hilton Head.
The first northern match is on Saturday, March 21 at Defiance College. The first home match is on Tuesday, April 7 versus OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at 3:30 p.m.
