BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team remained undefeated in Ohio Athletic Conference play and won its ninth straight match with an 8-1 victory against Ohio Northern University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.
BW (15-1, 4-0 OAC) suffered its only defeat this season on March 8 with 5-4 decision to Carroll (Wis.) University on its annual spring break trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Ohio Northern (6-8, 3-3 OAC) had its three match-winning streak snapped.
The Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead as the number one doubles team of junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC standout
Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player
Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Orange) won an 8-1 decision. The number three team of junior
Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and
Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) posted an 8-2 win to give BW its second team points.
Harris and
Ganim improved to 18-3 on the season and 61-17 in their careers to tie for 15th on the Yellow Jacket all-time victory list. Fredrick and Carano upped their season record to 14-4.
The Yellow Jackets won all six singles matches.
Harris won his match at first singles match by scores of 6-2, 7-6 and 7-5 in the tiebreaker to improve his career record to 61-13 and tie for 14th all-time.
Ganim posted a 6-2 and 7-5 victory at second singles and now has a career mark of 58-13 to rank 17th all-time. Sophomores
Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) won his third singles match by scores of 4-6, 7-6 (10-8) and 10-7. Sophomore
Jacob Liebler (Medina) won at fourth singles by scores of 4-6, 6-1 and 10-5.
Fredrick recorded a 6-2 and 6-1 win at fifth singles and
Carano cruised to a six singles victory by identical scores of 6-0.
BW is back in action on Saturday, April 18 when its travels to Alliance for an OAC match against the University of Mount Union at 1 p.m. The Yellow Jackets then play the very next day on Sunday, April 19 when they travel to Bexley for a rescheduled match with Capital University at 12 p.m. The final home match of the season is on Thursday, April 23 when the team hosts a rescheduled match against cross-town rival John Carroll University at 3:30 p.m.
