Baseball Splits OAC Doubleheader Against No. 20 Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against the No. 20-nationally ranked Otterbein University on Fishbaugh Field.

BW (13-7, 2-4 OAC) won game on by a score of 5-4 and Otterbein (16-5, 3-1 OAC) took game two by a score of 7-4.

In game one the Yellow Jackets scored all five of their runs in the third inning and tallied nine hits.  The Cardinals scored three runs in the first and one in the bottom half of the third.

Junior All-OAC starting pitcher Evan Lovick (Mentor) went the distance as he pitched all nine innings, surrendered four runs and 11 hits, but struck out six batters and improved to  4-1 on the season.

Offensively, junior catcher Trent Kaltenbach (Plain City/Johnath Elder) went two for-for-five with two runs batted in (RBI). In addition senior shortstop Steve Montgomery (Canton/Central Catholic) went two-for-five with an RBI and sophomore second baseman Griffin Watterson (Bay Village/Bay) went one-for-four with a two RBI single.

In game two, BW scored four runs on 10 hits as it scored three runs in the sixth inning and one in the eighth. Otterbein scored four in the third, one in the sixth and two in the eighth.  

At the plate, senior first baseman Kevin Hagen (Brecksville/St. Ignatius) went two-for-four with two RBI and Kaltenbach went two-for-four with one RBI. In addition freshman centerfielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) went one-for-three with one RBI.

Defensively, sophomore starting pitcher Danny Cody (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was handed the loss as he went five innings, struck out five batters and surrendered four runs. Sophomore Brandon Lekan (Strongsville) pitched the final three innings with two strikeouts and allowed two unearned runs.
