Men's Track and Field Places Third in Sparky Adams Invitational

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field team finished third in the 48th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW third of 10 teams with a team score of 84.5.  The University of Mount Union won the invitational with a final score of 194.5.

The Yellow Jackets  were led by junior All-OAC thrower Cody Smith (Port Clinton), junior thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry), sophomore sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Adams) and freshman Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) as they each earned first place finishes. Smith won the shot put event with a season-best mark of 53' 3'', Dysert finished first in the hammer throw with a mark of 156' 10'', Leverette won the 200-meter dash in a career-best time of 21.96 seconds and Achladis won the discus event with a throw of 155' 11''. 

Dysert also earned a second place finish behind Achladis in the discus with a mark of 148' 10''. In addition to Dysert in the hammer throw, Achladis placed third with a career-best toss of 135'8'' and junior thrower Nigel Simmons (Lilbrun, Ga./Snellville Brookwood) finished fifth with a mark of 134' 3''.

In other running events, freshman sprinter Darion Greer (Toledo/Central Catholic) finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.16 seconds and freshman distance runner Issac Wilson (Tylersburg, Pa./North Clarion) finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run with a finish of 16:03.59.

In the relay action, the 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Brandon Cole (Vermilion), Darion Greer (Toledo/Central Catholic), freshman sprinter Deion Greer (Toledo/Central Catholic) and Leverette placed third with a finish of 43.42 seconds.|

BW is back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29 when it travels to Muskingum for the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on the Johnson Family Track.
