Men's Volleyball Drops Road MCVL Doubleheader to Fontbonne (Mo.)

CLAYTON, Mo. – In its first road trip in a month, the Baldwin Wallace University men's volleyball team dropped a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League doubleheader to Fontbonne University. 

Fontbonne University (12-0, 12-0 MCVL) won the first match in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-19. The Griffins took the second match also in three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-16.

In the first match, the BW (6-8, 6-8 MCVL) offense was led by freshman outside hitter Michael Beard (Hilliard/Darby) with 13 kills. Freshman setter Brandon Long (Hinckley/ Metea Valley {Ill.}) supported the attack with a total of 28 assists. Freshman outside hitter Nick Irelan (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) led the defensive line with eight digs and Beard supported the defense with four digs.

Beard and Irelan led the offense for the second match with eight kills each. Long set up the offense with 24 assists. Leading the defense was freshman defensive specialist Joe Meyer (Waterford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) with nine digs and Irelan with eight. 

BW closes out the 2021 regular season when it travels to Alliance for a MCVL doubleheader and against the University of Mount Union University in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
