Men's Volleyball Drops Regular Season Finale, Qualifies for MCVL Tournament

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's volleyball team concluded the 2024 regular season as it fell to the University of Mount Union by a score of 3-1 in a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match in Timken Gymnasium inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

BW (13-13, 7-2 MCVL) qualifies for the MCVL Tournament hosted by Wittenberg University as the No. 2 seed and will travel to Springfield for a semifinal match against third-seeded Trine (Ind.) University on Friday, April 12 in Pam Evans Smith Arena at 4 p.m. Mount Union (13-9, 7-2 MCVL) also advances to the MCVL Tournament semifinals as the No. 4 seed and will take on first-seeded Wittenberg at 7 p.m.

BW Leaders

  • Senior Academic All-MCVL outside hitter Nick Irelan (London/Olentangy Liberty) was the game-leader with 15 kills and nine digs 
  • Senior outside hitter Michael Beard (Hilliard/Darby) also finished in double-digits for the 19th time this season with 13 kills, four digs, and two assists
  • Senior setter Brandon Long (Hinckley/Metea Valley [Ill.]) tallied a game-high 46 assists for his sixth 40+ assist game of the year
  • Freshman outside hitter Daniel Latham (Westerville/Westerville Central) finished with six digs, 12 kills, and a block assist
  • Sophomore All-MCVL middle hitter Josh Steinitz (Towson, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) led the team in blocks with two solos and one assist in his first game back from injury
  • Junior middle hitter Reed Fisher (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge Area) recorded six kills and a block assist 

Mount Union Leaders

  • Junior setter Will Heeney assisted 29 times
  • Senior right-side hitter Jack McClure led the offense with 11 kills
  • Freshman libero Peyton Koszelak and Heeney each added nine digs
