Football Wins Third Straight, Cruises Past Comets

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team won its third straight game and its second Ohio Athletic Conference contest as it defeated Capital University by a final score of 55-21on the Purmort Field inside Bernlohr Stadium.

BW (3-0, 2-0 OAC) improved to 43-12 in the all-time series, including winning the last seven contests and 11 of the last 12 meetings, with Capital (0-2, 0-1).

Offensively for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon), who is this week's OAC Offensive Player of the Week, completed 16-of-19 passes for 228 yards with three touchdowns. Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) led the ground game for the third straight week as he rushed for 87 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown.  Junior wide receiver Tim Conwell (Avon) led the receiving corps as he caught five passes for career-high 112 yards with a career-best tying two touchdowns.   Defensively, senior All-OAC defensive lineman Jordan Smith (Painesville/Riverside) and junior linebacker Dom Tromba (Painesville/Riverside) each made five tackles.

Offensively for the Comets, senior quarterback Ben Owens completed 9-of-19 passes for 158 yards. Sophomore Kassim Johnson rushed for 75 yards on three carries.  Senior wide out Steven Alaniz led the receiving unit as he caught three passes for 75 yards.   Defensively, sophomore linebacker Quincy Hains and sophomore defensive back Bryson Roberts each tallied nine stops.

BW is back in action on Saturday, September 28 when it returns home to the friendly confines of the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium for an OAC and Homecoming game against No. 4 nationally ranked and defending OAC Champion University of Mount Union at 2 p.m.
