Men’s Swimming and Diving Falls to Ohio Northern in Road Finale

ADA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team closed out the road portion of its regular season schedule as it fell to Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet by a final score of 143-84 in the ONU Natatorium inside the ONU Sports Center.

BW (6-3, 2-2 OAC) won five individual events.  Ohio Northern (5-2, 3-2 OAC) won six individual events and both relays.

Individuals
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC stroker Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate), who is this week's OAC Swimmer of the Week, won the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley in times of 1:57.19 and 1:59.60, respectively
  • Senior All-OAC diver Jason Heisler (Saline, Mich.) won the 1-meter and 3-meter events with total points of 306.55 and 309.00, respectively.
  • Senior All-OAC stroker Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:00.93 and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:50.66
  • Junior stroker Matias Cordero (Cuenca, Ecuador/Joseph de Jussieu) finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 49.61 and was third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.34
  • Junior backstroker Nolan Szuch (Springboro) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:03.67
  • Sophomore stroker Michael Gruber (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) was third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:30.51
  • Senior stroker Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas) took fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:27.63
  • Senior stroker Erik Tagg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) took fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:31.71
Relays
  • The 200-yard medley unit of Kingsley, Tafoya, McQueary and Cordero was third in a time of 1:41.01
  • The 200-yard freestyle squad of senior Academic All-OAC stroker Jack Kielmeyer (Westerville/South), sophomore stroker Owen Rogonjic (Mentor), sophomore stroker Ian Hochstetler (Doylestown/Wadsworth) and Tagg finished third in a time of 1:38.66
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, January 24 when they close out the regular season portion of their schedule with an OAC dual meet against crosstown rival John Carroll University in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 6 p.m.

The OAC Championships hosted by BW will be contested on February 12-15 in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.  Information about the OAC Championships can be found at https://bwyellowjackets.cc/4fZNCtI
