No. 21 Baseball Falls to Ithaca (N.Y.) in Rain Check Game

LEXINGTON, S.C. - The No. 21 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to Ithaca (N.Y.) University by a final score of 9-8 in the Spartan Southern Classic at Lexington County Stadium.

Scoring Summary

  • Bottom 1st - Senior All-OAC left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) tagged on a sac fly from sophomore third baseman Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy)
  • Bottom 1st - Senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario, Pickering) tied things up with another sac fly
  • Bottom 2nd - Junior All-OAC shortstop Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) gave the Jackets the lead with an RBI single
  • Bottom 2nd - West reached on a Bombers error while Kolenich scored his second run of the day
  • Bottom 3rd - Marousek singled through gap to give BW its biggest lead of the day
  • Bottom 7th - Senior Academic All-OAC outfielder Brandon Gelpi (Monroeville, Pa./Central Catholic) put the ball in play but another Ithaca miscue allowed West to score
  • Bottom 7th - Senior first baseman Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) came in clutch again with a pinch-hit double to tie the game
At the Plate
  • Marousek finished a season-best 3-for-4 with three singles, two runs scored, an RBI, and a steal
  • Kolenich went 2-for-5 and also added two runs, an RBI and a steal
  • Sophomore catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and West each tallied a hit
On the Mound
  • Senior All-OAC right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) pitched the first four innings where he struck out three and allowed seven runs on five hits and two walks
  • Sophomore All-OAC right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) closed the game with a five inning effort where he allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out a game-high four batters

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Wednesday, March 12 as they conclude the Spartan Southern Classic by taking on Arcadia (Pa.) University at 9 a.m. at Lexington County Stadium.
