BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University community is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Athletics Alumni Hall of Famer, Coach and Professor
Larry Van Dusen.
"
Larry Van Dusen was a remarkable supporter and friend whose presence meant so much to me during my four years at Baldwin Wallace," stated Director of Athletics and Recreation
Steve Thompson. "His unwavering passion for Yellow Jacket athletics, genuine care for people, and steady encouragement made a lasting impression on me and our entire department. What stood out most was the profound love and respect his former players had for him — a true testament to the impact he made as a coach and mentor.
Larry embodied the spirit of Baldwin Wallace — kind, committed, and community-driven. I will miss his friendship deeply and will always be grateful for the support he so generously offered."
A devoted educator and coach for 28 years,

His leadership helped shape one of the most successful eras in BW football history, with an impressive record of 217 wins, 63 losses, and two ties. Under his guidance, the team secured 11 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships and five national playoff appearances.

In recognition of his outstanding leadership, he was named OAC Co-Coach of the Year in 1989. His commitment to academic excellence was equally notable—he received BW's Faculty Excellence Award and the prestigious Bechberger Award for Human Development.
In the classroom,
Coach Van Dusen inspired countless students by encouraging open dialogue about meaningful life issues. He retired from teaching and coaching at the conclusion of the 2002–03 academic year, leaving behind a lasting legacy of integrity, mentorship, and excellence.
