No. 24 Men’s Wrestling Closes Regular Season at John Carroll Open

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team closed out the regular season at the unscored John Carroll University inside the Athletics and Wellness Center.

BW had four of its 11 wrestlers place in the top-5 over different divisions, including one second place finisher

Freshman 184-pounder Ben McWilliams (Mentor-on-the-Lake/Mentor) – Second Place Blue Division
  • Won an 11-7 decision over Caiden Hooks of Otterbein
  • Won by pinfall in 1:28 over Brayden Kobylinski of Mount Union
  • Won a 16-1 technical fall over Matthew Klein of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (N.Y.)
  • Loss an 18-0 technical fall to unattached Brencyn Evans 
Sophomore and No. 14 nationally ranked 285-pounder Christian McChesney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg-Salem) –Third Place Gold Division
  • Loss a 5-2 decision to sophomore Andy Vanscoy (Cuyahoga Falls/St. Vincent-St. Mary)
  • Bye in the second round
  • Won a 2-1 decision over Corey Perkins-Willett of Ohio Valley Community College
  • Won a 4-0 decision over unattached Wilson Spires 
  • Won a 14-3 major decision over unattached Kyle Beverly 
  • Won a 5-2 extra time decision over Greg Dennard of NCAA Division II Bluefield State (W. Va.)
Freshman 133-pounder Josh Novak (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) – Fourth Place Blue Division
  • Bye in first round
  • Won by pinfall in 5:27 over Preston Chandler of NCAA Division II Point Park (Pa.)
  • Loss an 10-4 decision to unattached Carter Putt
  • Won a 5-1 decision over Aidan Carone of Mount Union
  • Loss an 18-8 major decision to Aiden Arnold of Buffalo State (N.Y.)
Junior 149-pounder Noah Creque (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Sigel) – Fifth Place Navy Division
  • Won by pinfall in 4:23 over Mich Gregory of NCAA Division II Hillsdale (Mich.)
  • Won an 11-10 decision over Zach Orseno of Otterbein
  • Loss an 11-4 decision to Luke Pires of Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.)
  • Loss an 18-9 major decision to Marco Rivera of Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.)
  • Won by pinfall in 2:14 over Radley Spencer of Otterbein
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday and Saturday, February 27 and 28 when they travel to Ada to compete in the NCAA Division III Region 4 Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University inside the ONU Sports Center.
