BALTIMORE, Md. - The No. 29 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team opened up the day by defeating St. John Fisher (N.Y) by a final score of 6-5, and then fell to fourth-ranked John Hopkins (Md.) by a score of 5-4 at Babb Field at Stromberg Stadium.

Scoring Summary 

• Top 1st - Junior designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./ Worcester Academy) singled to the left side to get the first run across for The Brown and Gold

• Top 1st - Junior first baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) singled to the right side to give BW an early 2-0 lead

• Top 2nd - The Yellow Jackets scored on an RBI groundout from senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/ St. Edward) 

• Top 7th - Kolenich homered to left center to score two runs for BW to increase the lead to 5-1

• Top 8th - Kolenich singled up the middle for an RBI single to score the final run of the day for the Brown and Gold

At the Plate 

• Senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) led the Yellow Jackets' offense with three hits 

• Kolenich went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two walks, and scored two runs 

• Junior catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) scored two runs to tie a team-high

On the Mound

• Senior left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) was credited with the win as he threw five innings and allowed one run on four hits and tallied five strikeouts 

• Senior right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) came on in relief and pitched 1 ?  innings, giving up three runs on three hits, while striking out two

• Sophomore right-hander Sam Hoffman (Mentor/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) saved the game for the Yellow Jackets, pitching the final 2 ?  innings, giving up three hits, one run, and striking out five

Scoring Summary

• Top 3rd - The Yellow Jackets pushed across their first run on an RBI fielder's choice by Gordon 

• Top 8th - Sophomore infielder Matt DelDuca (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) hit a pinch-hit homer to left to score three runs back for the Brown and Gold 

At the Plate

• DelDuca went 1-for-1 and led the Yellow Jackets' offense with three RBI 

• Gordon tallied one RBI and scored a run to tie a team-high 

• Senior center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) went 1-for-2, drawing a team-high two walks

On the Mound

• Junior right-hander Will Henderlich (Madison) pitched two innings of relief, giving up no hits or runs and striking out one batter out

• Freshman right-hander Jared Thacker (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) finished the game, pitching one inning, giving up one hit, and striking out two

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Friday, February 27th, when they travel to Lexington, Ky, for the first of three games at Legends Stadium, first against Denison. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and fans can click here to watch the game.
