Baseball Defeats North Central (Ill.) in Offensive Battle

CAROL STREAM, Ill. - The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team won an offensively-dominated game over North Central (Ill.) College by a score of 15-13 at Pfund Stadium for their seventh consecutive win.

The contest is the fifth consecutive effort in which the team has scored 11 or more runs, and it's the first time since 2017 in which they have scored double-digit runs in five consecutive games, when they did so the first five games of the 2017 season from February 18 to February 26, 2017.

Scoring Summary

Bottom 1st - Junior first baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) walked with the bases loaded to drive in the first run of the game

Bottom 1st - Sophomore utility player Maddox Tarquinio (McKees Rock, Pa./Montour) produced an RBI single in which BW took the lead 2-1

Bottom 1st - Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference infielder Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to make it a 3-1 game

Bottom 1st - Gordon scored the Yellow Jackets' fourth run of the game on a wild pitch

Bottom 1st - Senior John Panstares (Westlake/St Ignatius) started his day with a triple to extend the lead

Bottom 1st - Junior catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) scored the final run of the inning 

Bottom 4th - Senior center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) hit his first home run of 2026 on a fly ball to right field

Bottom 5th - After the Cardinals came back to tie the game at seven, senior All-OAC third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St Edward) had a sacrifice fly to give the Yellow Jackets a one-run lead

Bottom 6th - Tarquinio reached base on a throwing error, and BW regained the lead after things were all tied up at eight

Bottom 7th - Junior designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) recorded an RBI double to score the 10th run of the game for the Brown and Gold

Bottom 7th - Gordon followed West with a double of his own to put BW up 11-8 after seven innings

Bottom 8th - After losing the lead, sophomore catcher Owen Brazee (Bedford, Mass./Lawrence Academy) singled through the right side to tie the game at 12

Bottom 8th - Senior outfielder Reid Fleming (Pickerington/North) scored on a passed ball to give the Yellow Jackets a 13-12 lead

Bottom 8th - Senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) doubled down the line in left to add another run for the Brown and Gold

Bottom 8th - Terzola scored on a wild pitch for the final run of the game for BW, ending their second-highest scoring game of the season since opening day against Alfred State (N.Y.)

At the Plate

  • Ritlinger-Nirider finished the day with three hits, going 3-for-4 with his first home run of the year, a double, two walks, and scored three runs

  • West was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in the effort

  • Gordon was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and had a team-leading two RBI

  • Tarquinio was 1-for-4, had a walk, a run, and an RBI reach

  • Terzola was 1-for-4 and tallied a walk and run to go with his day

On the Mound

  • Senior right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) was the starting pitcher and struck out seven batters in five innings of work

  • Sophomore right-hander Michael DelDuca (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley took the win in his first outing of the season, going an inning and a third, and three of the four outs he recorded were strikeouts
