Men’s Volleyball Concludes Season in Loss to Wittenberg in MCVL Semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Fourth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University men's volleyball fell to the top-seeded Wittenberg Tigers by a score of 0-3 with set scores of 21-25, 21-25, and 15-25 inside Pam Evans Smith Arena in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League tournament semifinals.

BW (18-11, 6-3 MCVL) lost their final match of 2026 in a battle where the Tigers never allowed them to have a significant lead. Wittenberg overwhelmed BW at the net with 11 blocks to the Jackets' five. The Tigers started off with efficient hitting at .429 in the first set. Tonight's result was the same as two weeks ago when BW was swept by Wittenberg on March 28 in the same arena.

BW Leaders (18-11, 6-3 MCVL)
  • First-year All-MCVL honorable mention outside hitter Tyler Schunk (Eden, N.Y.) led the team in kills with 12 and digs with eight.
  • MCVL Rookie of the Year Ethan Gundrum (Cincinnati/McNicholas) contributed 25 assists and tied Schunk for the team lead in digs with eight.
  • Junior Academic All-MCVL middle hitter Bobby Mayberry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) had three blocks to lead the defense.

Wittenberg Leaders (19-5, 8-1 MCVL)
  • Harrison Mitchell had eight kills to lead the Tigers.
  • Patterson Reed was the team leader with a total of five blocks.
  • Gavin Hagerty had 17 assists to support the Tigers' offense.

This concludes the 2026 men's volleyball season. They had an overall record of 18-11 and an MCVL record of 6-3. BW earned a school-record national ranking of No. 9 in the DIII American Volleyball Coaches Association poll in February.
