No. 13 Baseball Blows Out Hiram in Seven-Inning Victory

BEREA, Ohio
– The No. 13 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team beat Hiram College in a non–conference game in seven innings by a score of 15-2 on the turf of Fisher Field.

The Yellow Jackets got off to a hot start, scoring all 15 of their runs in the first two innings, which marks the ninth time the Brown and Gold have scored at least 15 runs. BW's pitching and defensive play was good enough to see out the rest of the game, improving the Yellow Jackets' record to 18-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

 Scoring Summary 

  • Bottom 1st - Junior second basemen Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) opened the scoring of the game with his second grand slam on the season to give BW an early 4-0 lead

  • Bottom 2nd – Sophomore left fielder Mario Escano (Broadview Heights/North Royalton) scored on a wild pitch for BW's fifth run of the game

  • Bottom 2nd - Senior center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) doubled home run number six for the Yellow Jackets

  • Bottom 2nd - Junior first baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) picked up an RBI when he was hit by a pitch to score senior third-baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) for a 7-0 BW lead

  • Bottom 2nd – Petrecca added another RBI with a sacrifice fly to bring BW's lead to eight

  • Bottom 2nd – Gordon and junior designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored on an error by the Hiram shortstop to get BW to 10 runs scored on the day

  • Bottom 2nd – Senior right-fielder John Panstares (Westlake/St. Ignatius) scored on a fielder's choice with the RBI going to Escano for run number 11 for the Brown and Gold

  • Bottom 2nd – Ritlinger-Nirider hit the second grand slam of the afternoon and his second on the season to give BW a 15-0 lead and conclude a 10-run second inning

At the Plate

  • Ritlinger-Nirider went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, double, a walk, and five RBI

  • Petrecca went 1-for-2 with a grand slam and had five RBI

  • West went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base

  • Senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) was one of three Yellow Jacket with a multi-hit day with two singles on 2-for-4 hitting

 On the Mound

  • Sophomore right-hander Brady Richman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) pitched five innings, allowing only one run, striking out four and was credited with the win

  • Freshman right-hander Austin Coy (East Canton/Canton Central Catholic) pitched one inning of relief, allowed no runs, and struck out one batter
