ACADEMIC MAJOR:  Finance

BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION:  Matt Wittels played four seasons of baseball at Baldwin Wallace University and earned four varsity letters. He was a key four-year standout in the bullpen.

ACADEMIC HONORS:  Matt carried a 3.476 grade point average and was a Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar.

WITTEL'S & BW LEGACY:  Matt was a member of the winningest graduating class (2016) in BW history as the group compiled a 111-65 record, qualified for three Ohio Athletic Conference tournaments (2014-2016), advanced to the OAC Championship Game twice (2014 and 2016), earned two NCAA Division III Tournament berths (2014 and 2015), won the 2014 Div. III Mid-Atlantic Regional title and advanced to BW's first-ever Div. III College World Series (2014).

THROUGH-THE-YEARS: Matt Wittels played four years of baseball and earned four varsity letters.

Individually, Matt appeared in 31 career games, had a 1-2 record with one save and 4.03 earned run average. In 44 and two-third innings pitched, he allowed 37 base hits, 22 runs (20 earned) and struck out 38 opposing batters.

As a freshman in 2012-2013, Matt played his first season of baseball and earned his first varsity letter. He was a relief pitcher who made eight appearances, compiled a 0-1 record with a solid 1.46 earned run average and struck out 10 batters in 12 and one-third innings pitched. Opponents batted .234 against him. Matt helped BW tie the single-season school-record for wins with 27 and produce a 27-13 overall record.

As a sophomore in 2013-2014, Matt played in his second season of baseball and earned his second varsity letter. He made 12 appearances in relief and pitched 17 and one-third innings. He allowed eight earned runs, struck out 17, had a 4.15 ERA, and a 1-1 record. Matt led the team in opponent batting average with .180. He helped BW to win a single-season school-record 30 games, compile a 30-20 record, place second at the OAC Tournament, win the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional and advance to the school's first-ever Division III College World Series.

As a junior in 2014-2015, Matt played his third season of baseball and earned his third letter. He was a relief pitcher on the varsity who made seven appearances with a 0-0 record and one save and a 6.75 ERA with five strikeouts in eight innings pitched. BW finished with a school-record 31 victories and a 31-12 record. The Yellow Jackets finished fourth at the OAC Tournament and advanced to their second straight NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.

As a senior in 2015-2016, Matt played his fourth season of baseball and earned his fourth letter. He was a key reliever for the Yellow Jackets for the fourth straight year. Matt appeared in five games and had a 0-0 record with a 4.50 ERA. He allowed seven hits and four runs (all earned) in eight innings of work and struck out seven opposing hitters. Opponents batted just .233 against him. BW finished 23-20 overall, tied for second during the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season at 13-5 and advanced to the 2016 OAC Championship Game.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: Matt Wittels grew up in Lyndhurst, Ohio and graduated from Charles F. Brush High School.

Matt played four years of baseball and lettered three times. He also played golf for four years and earned three varsity letters. 

In baseball as a junior and senior, Matt was named first-team All-Northeast Ohio Conference. As a senior, he earned the Andy Cheyfite Award. As a junior, he was named the Brush H.S. Most Valuable Player and its Most Improved Player.

In golf, Matt was a two-time All-NOC selection and the Brush H.S. MVP as a senior.

Academically, Matt was a Merit Roll student and the Brush H.S. Sportsmanship Award winner.
