Michael Petrella '25 begins his first season as an assistant wrestling coach at Baldwin Wallace University in 2025-26.

Petrella, the most decorated wrestler in program history, becomes a part of a large and talented group on Coach Gibbs’ staff that includes eight alumni. He begins his coaching career after a legendary collegiate run that included three consecutive NCAA titles at two different weight classes and four straight All-American honors.

Over his dominant career, Petrella compiled a 155-4 record—the best in school history—including a remarkable 116-match winning streak to close out his career. His win total includes 61 pins, 39 technical falls, and 19 major decisions.

In addition to his national accolades, Petrella was a:

  • Four-time Invitational Champion
  • 2024 OAC Wrestler of the Year

Off the mat, Petrella was the 2025 BW Male Clyde Lamb Award recipient and a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American.
