Robert Mays is entering his first season as an assistant linebackers coach of the Baldwin Wallace football program in 2026.

The 2026 season marks Mays' first official collegiate coaching position as he begins his career with the Yellow Jackets.

Robert Mays III enters his first season with the Baldwin Wallace University football program as an assistant linebackers coach, working under Defensive Coordinator Ethan Nichol. In addition to his responsibilities with the Yellow Jackets' linebackers, Mays will assist with special teams, junior varsity, and recruiting.

Mays arrives at Baldwin Wallace after beginning his coaching career at his alma mater, the College of Wooster. Following the conclusion of his playing career, Mays spent two years as a student coach with the Fighting Scots, working primarily with the defensive line. He also gained coaching experience at Brownsburg High School, his high school alma mater, where he worked with the defensive line and freshman football program during the summers post high school graduation.

As a student-athlete at Wooster, Mays competed in both football and track and field. He appeared in six games as a defensive lineman during his lone season of collegiate football, recording five tackles and one sack before injuries brought his playing career to an end.

Mays went on to distinguish himself as a member of the Wooster track and field program. In 2026, he became the first athlete in program history to win a North Coast Athletic Conference championship in the hammer throw. Mays also established the Wooster school record in the event with a throw of 52.13 meters (171 feet). During his career, he was a two-time NCAC Athlete of the Week, seven-time conference scorer and two-time member of the Athletic Honor Roll.

A graduate of the College of Wooster, Mays earned his bachelor's degree with majors in biology and psychology while completing minors in Africana Studies and physical education."
