BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball captures the Western New York Knee and Orthopedic Surgery Tournament with a 89-79 victory against host Medaille College in the Sullivan Center.
BW (3-1) had five players score in double figures led by sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard and tournament Most Valuable Player Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) with a team-high 18 points. Junior guard Zack Brandy (Hudson) tallied 14 points, freshman guard Michael Peters (Cuyahoga Falls /Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) recorded a career-high 13 points and senior forward Zach Warner (Clyde) added 12 points. Sophomore forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk), who selected to the all-tournament team, rounded out the double figure scorers as he recorded his fourth career double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Medaille (1-2) had three players score in double figures led by Chris Willingham with a game-high 26 points. Johnathan Belton tallied 22 points and Mike Hollenbeck contributed 14.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 14-5 lead on a jumper by Kuhn at the 14:38 mark. BW pushed its lead to 14 points at 31-17 on a jumper by Fetherolf at 6:25. The Mavericks used a 15-7 run to cut the lead down to 38-32 on jumper by Belton at the 1:47 mark. The Yellow Jackets outscored Medaille 6-2 down the stretch and led 44-34 at the intermission.
BW opened the second half on a 15-9 run to extend the lead to 59-43 on a jumper by sophomore forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) at the 14:31 mark. The Mavericks would go on a 27-19 run to cut the lead down to 78-70 on layup by Willingham at 2:03. The Yellow Jackets would close the game on a 11-9 run to secure the win.
BW is back in action on Tuesday, November 24 when it hosts a non-conference game against Westminster (Pa.) College in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
