BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader loss to Capital University at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.
The Yellow Jackets (5-10, 0-2 OAC) opened its home opener with a 5-0 loss to the Crusaders (10-5, 2-0 OAC) and ended the day with a 10-0 defeat in six innings.
In game one, BW had just two hits with each coming on ad double by sophomore right fielder
Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/Perkins) and freshman shortstop
Sierra Bennett (Tallmadge). It was the third career double for
Daniel and the second career double for
Bennett.
In the circle, sophomore
Erica Morgan (Brook park/Midpark) pitched all seven innings and allowed five runs (four earned) with five strikeouts.
In game two, the Yellow Jackets had six hits and were led by sophomore All-OAC third baseman
DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) with two hits.
Rogers went 2-for-2 with a walk. In addition, senior All-OAC second baseman
Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge),
Daniel and sophomore catcher
Brianna Jesionek (Parma/Holy Name) and freshman left fielder
Alicia Hack (Pickerington/North) all added a base knock.
In the circle, two BW pitchers allowed 10 runs on 14 hits with two strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action and remain at home on Wednesday, March 25 when they host a non-conference doubleheader against Geneva (Pa.) College on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 3:30 p.m. The BW non-conference doubleheader against Case Western Reserve University scheduled for Sunday, March 22 has been postponed due the forecasted cold temperatures.
