No. 24 Men's Basketball Beats Heidelberg in Comeback Fashion

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 24-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team closed out its three game homestand with a, 67-64, victory over Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (5-1, 1-1 OAC), who won its 11th consecutive game against Heidelberg (4-3, 1-1 OAC), had three players score in double figures led by junior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) as he scored a game-high tying 21 points. Junior forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) scored a season-high 15 points and sophomore guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) scored 11 points.      

With his 21 points Kuhn now has 1,061 points and is 11 points shy of Hall of Famer Ryan Sooy (1993-97) in 31st place on the BW all-time scoring list.

The Student Princes had two players score in double figures led by sophomore forward Myron Prewitt as he scored a game-high tying 21 points off the bench. Junior guard Chris Moxley contributed 16 points

Heidelberg opened the game on a 20-5 run when junior guard Kiere Bennie knocked down a three-pointer at the 13:58 mark.  The Yellow Jackets responded with a 16-5 run that cut the lead to 25-21 on a layup by sophomore guard Kyle Nader (Vermilion) at 7:56. The Student Princes closed out the half on a 12-2 run to lead 37-23 at the intermission.

BW outscored Heidelberg 26-13 to open the second half and cut the lead to 50-49 on a jumper by Battle at the 10:05 mark. The Yellow Jackets tied the game for the first time since the opening tip at 55-55 on a layup by Kuhn at 7:18. BW closed out the game by outscoring the Student Princes 12-9 over the final seven minutes. Heidelberg had a chance to force the game into overtime but its three-point shot went in and out at the buzzer.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, December 10 when they travel to New Concord to face Muskingum University in the finale of an OAC men's and women's doubleheader on Performance Court at 4 p.m. All fans will receive free admission to the games with a canned food or non-perishable item donation.
