OBERLIN, Ohio – The Baldwin University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Oberlin Collge, 15-10, inside the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex on Dick Bailey Field this evening.
BW (0-1) was led by freshman attack
Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown / Green) with three goals in her first collegiate game. Along with
Albrechta, junior midfielder
Katie Kocher (Rocky River), senior attack
Emma Harding (Akron / Richfield Revere), and freshman midfielder
Megan Patrick (Ravenna / Kent Roosevelt) each scored two goals.
Oberlin (2-0) was led by sophomore midfielder Natalie Rauchle, Junior attack Sara Phister, and junior attack Maggie Mullard. Rauchle scored a game-high four goals, and Phister and Mullard added three each.
The score was tied three times in the first twelve minutes of play the last when
Harding scored her first goal of the season with 18:12 left in the first half to knot the game up at 3-3. Oberlin went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-3 lead when junior attack Sara Phister scored at the 12:15 mark. Both teams scored two goals in the last 12 minutes of the first half to give the Yeowomen an 11-5 lead at halftime.
In the second half the Yellow Jackets went on a 4-1 run to open and cut the Oberlin lead to 12-8 when
Harding netted her second of the game at the 20:11 mark. The Yeowomen outscored BW 3-2 in the final 20 minutes and held on for the victory.
The Yellow Jackets travel to Bradenton, Florida for the Sticks Up Lacrosse "20th Annual Spring Fling." BW's first game is on Sunday, March 6 when it squares off against Emmanuel (Mass.) College at 6 p.m.
