Women's Volleyball Defeats Mount Union on Seniors' Night

BEREA, Ohio - In an intense five set match, the Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team defeated the University of Mount Union, 3-2 on Seniors' Night, in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

This triumph marks the first victory for BW (21-5, 4-4 OAC) over Mount Union (20-8, 5-3 OAC)since 2006, when the Yellow Jackets defeated the Purple Raiders 3-0.

Before the match, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) was accompanied by her parents and was recognized at midcourt for her career as a Yellow Jacket.

BW's attack was led by sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich), who had 13 kills and three service aces. Sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Mary Zurbrugg (Alliance) sank 11 at a .265 clip while junior All-OAC middle hitter Taylor Brown (Maple Heights) buried 11. Junior Academic All-OAC Alexis Garrett (Mentor) tallied 10 kills and junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Kail Nicholas (Milwaukee, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) recorded seven. Junior setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) led the match with 47 assists, while adding four kills, two service aces, and 10 digs.

Junior Academic All-OAC and All-OAC libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) scooped up 13 attacks, which landed her at No. 9 on BW's All-Time Career Digs list with 1,432. Earl dug up 11 while junior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Sydni Colchagoff (Findlay/Liberty-Benton) and sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) totaled eight digs. Nicholas defended the nylon with a career-high five assisted blocks while Zurbrugg and Brown each recorded four.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season at Marietta College on Saturday November 2 at 1 p.m.
