Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – In an Ohio Athletic Conference tilt, the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell to Wilmington College 85-70, inside the Fred RaizkArena.

BW (12-9 overall, 8-6 OAC) was led by senior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/Kenston), who secured his ninth career double-double after a 15 point, 10 rebound performance. Senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) tallied 12 while senior guard Zach Cebula (Brunswick) chipped in 10 off 2-of-4 from long range.

Wilmington (9-12 overall, 7-7 OAC) was led by junior forward Abdul Kanu who scored a game-high 24 points. Sophomore guard Jeffrey Mansfield dropped 20 while senior guard DaeShawn Jackson recorded 17. Senior guard Aaron Mullins registered 12 and junior forward Colin Myers put in 10.

BW drops to 30-20 in the all-time series with Wilmington.

Wilmington started the game on an 11-3 run and BW countered with a 5-0 spurt to bring the score to 11-8 at the 10:41 mark. The Quakers answered with a 19-7 run to take a 30-15 advantage with just over four minutes left in the first half. Each squad scored 10 points and Wilmington headed into halftime with a 40-25 lead.

The Yellow Jackets came out of the locker room and trimmed the lead to 40-36 with an 11-0 run at the 16:37 mark. The Quakers retaliated with a 14-7 spurt to take a 54-43 advantage with just over ten minutes left in the second half. BW brought the lead back to single digits of 71-62 with a 19-17 run, after a pull up three from Quiring at 2:21. Wilmington closed the final two minutes on a 14-8 run and took the 85-70 victory.

The Yellow Jackets hit the court next on Wednesday February, 12 for an OAC contest against John Carroll University. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
