Women's Volleyball Drops Two at Muskingum Invitational

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team traveled to Muskingum University for the Muskingum Invitational where the Yellow Jackets faced #12 Juniata College (Pa.) and Wittenberg University inside the Anne C. Steel Center.

The Yellow Jackets (15-7) went 0-2 on the day against the non-conference opponents dropping to both Juniata (16-1) and Wittenberg (14-5).

Match 1

BW dropped in three sets to the Juniata Eagles by set scores of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-16. The Yellow Jackets were able to battle with Juniata to start each set before the Eagles would find some momentum. 

The Yellow Jackets totaled 29 digs, 26 kills, 26 assists, and four service aces as a team. Juniata posted 40 team kills and 36 digs. 

Senior First Team All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) led the Yellow Jackets with 11 kills and hit .292. Junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) tallied six kills and two service aces.

Senior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) finished with 12 digs and two service aces for BW. Freshman setter Lauren Reid (Canonsburg, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) posted 11 assists while sophomore setter Kaitlyn Frederick (Sugar Grove/Berne Union) dished out 10.

Match 2

The Yellow Jackets battle late in each of the sets but were unable to close them out, falling to Wittenberg by set scores of 27-25, 26-24, and 25-23.

BW grabbed the advantage over the Tigers in kills (46-40) and assists (41-38) but Wittenberg tallied 70 digs to BW's 67 total and outblocked the Yellow Jackets.

Earl totaled 15 kills and 12 digs for BW. Freshman outside hitter Sam Rueda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) posted a season-high 10 kills. Freshman libero Lauren Gardner (Cleveland/Saint Joseph) tallied 24 digs and added two assists.

Freshman middle hitter Alyssa Saghy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) notched five kills while Luciano added four kills and four total blocks for the Yellow Jackets. Freshman right side hitter Allison Weiner (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) finished with seven kills.

BW returns to play on Wednesday, October 13 as the Yellow Jackets travel to Heidelberg University for a big OAC showdown. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. inside Seiberling Gymnasium.
