Football Cages Cardinals in Hall of Fame Game

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team defeated Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference and Hall of Fame game by a final score of 36-7on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (4-1, 3-1 OAC) improved to 42-21-1 in the all-time series with Otterbein (0-5, 0-4 OAC), including winning the last six contests.

During the first quarter break, the 2024 Athletics Alumni Hall of Fame Class was introduced to the Finnie Stadium Crowd.  The nine inductees include Sara Baker-Zito '13 (softball), Kris Boey '98 (men's cross country and track and field), Ariel Brough '10 (women's basketball), Brooke Hamilton-Seiler '13 (women's golf), Rebecca Kapusta '13 (women's golf), Doug Knight '95 (men's wrestling), Matt Kubinski '90 (football), Andy Schmitz '96 (honorary) and Phil Stringer '90 (baseball).

Offensively for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) completed 21-of-32 passes for 236 yards with a career-high tying four touchdowns. Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) led the ground attack as he rushed for 45 yards on 14 carries. Junior wide receiver Tim Conwell (Avon) led the aerial assault as he caught seven passes for a career-best tying 112 yards with two touchdowns. Offensively for the Comets, sophomore quarterback Cayden Lassiter completed 3-of-10 passes for 29 yards with one interception. Sophomore running back John Lard rushed for 52 yards on 10 carries. Senior wide receiver Armani Burton caught one pass for 35 yards
Defensively, junior defensive back Tyreek Gunnell tallied a game-high 13 tackles.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 19 when they travel to nearby University Heights for the final OAC and 36th Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy meeting with crosstown rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula Stadium at 2 p.m.
