Men’s Swimming and Diving Wins Season and OAC Opener, Holds Off Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team opened the 2024-25 season and the Ohio Athletic Conference campaign as it defeated Wilmington College by a final score of 94-80 in the Wilmington Natatorium.

BW (1-0, 1-0 OAC) won two individual titles and one relay race.   Wilmington (0-1,0-1 OAC) won seven individual titles and one relay race.  

Individuals
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC stroker Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Park) won the 200-meter individual medley in a time of 2:17.24 and was second 100-meter butterfly in a time of 59.82
  • Senior All-OAC stroker Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) won the 400-meter freestyle in a time of 4:28.00 and was second in the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2:05.35
  • Senior stroker Luke Minick (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) finished second in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle in times of 26.70 and 1:02.37, respectively
  • Senior Erik Tagg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) finished second in the 800-meter freestyle in a time of 10:48.12
  • Senior stroker Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas) finished second in the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 1:15.56
  • Junior stroker Nolan Szuch (Springboro) finished second in the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1:04.71
Relays
  • The 200-meter freestyle unit of senior Jack Kielmeyer (Westerville/South), sophomore stroker Owen Rogonjic (Mentor), junior freestyler Kevin Meyer (Mentor) and freshman freestyler Mason Carnahan (Willard) won in a time of 1:47.66
  • The 200-meter medley squad of Szuch, junior stroker Tyler Warner (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico Academy), McQueary and Kingsley took second in a time of 1:56.72
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 26 when they travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania for a pair of non-conference dual meets against Allegheny College and Fredonia (N.Y.) University in the Mellon Pool inside the David V. Wise Center Sports Complex at 1 p.m.
