BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team was defeated by Capital University by a final score of 3-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup and this season's Breast Cancer Awareness Match in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
BW (10-6, 0-2 OAC) dropped its first home conference game of the season as Capital (9-9, 1-0 OAC) won three straight sets after dropping the first to earn a victory in their first conference game of 2024. Prior to the match, junior Academic All-OAC setter Katarina Blazetic (DeLand, Fla.) presented an announcement dedicating the match as a Breast Cancer Awareness Match.
BW Leaders
- Senior outside hitter Brinn MacLellan (Novelty/Gilmour Academy) led the BW offense with 13 kills and added a block assist
- After missing the first two sets due to injury, senior outside hitter Sydney Simonson (Sullivan/Black River) was cleared to finish the game where she recorded a game-high two total blocks and had four kills
- Senior All-OAC libero and OAC Defensive Player of the Week Lauren Gardner (Avon/St. Joseph Academy) totaled 18 digs to lead the Yellow Jacket defense
- Freshman middle hitter Josie Lynn (Wabash, Ind./Northfield) finished with eight kills, two digs, and a block assist
- Junior Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ella Rogers (Painesville/Mentor) finished with a career-best five kills
- Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference outside hitter Sam Rueda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) tallied 12 digs and four kills
- Junior defensive specialist Paige Contris (Pemberville/Eastwood) was the fourth Yellow Jacket with 10+ digs as she finished with 11
- Blazetic recorded a double-double in assists and digs with 32 and 11, respectively
- Sophomore outside hitter Lexi Smith (Tiffin/Columbian) and freshman outside hitter Bella Martinez (Newark) each added two kills
