Today's Contest
Today is the second game of the 2024 season, the first road contest, and the first Ohio Athletic Conference game for the Baldwin Wallace University football team as it travels to take on Wilmington College. BW opened the season with a 24-14 victory over longtime rival Wittenberg University in the 46th Lee Tressel Shrine Classic last Saturday in Berea.  Wilmington fell to The College of Wooster by a final score of 56-13 in Wooster.

The Series
BW and Wilmington have met 24 times on the gridiron with the Yellow Jackets holding an 21-3 series lead, including 14 straight victories. The two teams did not meet in 2021 spring COVID-19 shortened OAC season. During the 14 game winning streak, BW has outscored the Quakers, 609-193. The series began in 1922 with Wilmington defeating the Yellow Jackets, 16-7, in Berea. The last Wilmington win came in 2008 when it beat the Yellow Jackets, 27-21, in Wilmington.

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert
Hilvert is in his eight  season at BW and has a record of 43-20 and Ohio Athletic Conference slate of 37-18. He is 110-46 in his 16th overall season. Hilvert is 6-0 against Wilmington.

Wilmington Head Coach Kevin Burke
Burke is in his first season at Wilmington. He is 27-55 in his 10th overall season. Burke is facing BW for the first time in his career.

Last Game vs. Wilminton -- September 9,  2023
BW scored 65 points on 295 yards rushing and 183 yards passing for 478 total yards.  Wilmington scored 25 points on 276 yards passing and 163 yards rushing for 439 total yards.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week one of the season, BW scored 24 points on 184 yards passing and 58 yards rushing for 242 total yards.  Wittenberg scored 14 points on 203 yards passing and 76 yards rushing for 279 total yards.

BW Leaders
Offensively, sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) has completed 20-of-26 passes for 184 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) leads the ground game with 23 yards on eight carries.  Senior wideout Oliver Kelleher (Hobe Sound, Fla./Marian County) leads the aerial assault with four catches for 66 yards and an OAC league tying two touchdowns.  Defensively, junior linebacker Dom Tromba (Painesville/Riverside) leads the team and is tied for fifth in the OAC with eight tackles.  Senior All-OAC defensive lineman Jordan Smith (Painesville/Riverside) leads the team and is second in the OAC with two quarterback sacks.

Scouting the Quakers
In week one of the season, Wilmington scored 13  points on 437 yards passing and 55 yards rushing for 492 total yards.  Wooster scored 56  points on  264 yards rushing and 243  yards passing for 507 total yards.

Wilmington Leaders
Offensively, junior quarterback Isaac Ross has completed 29-of-49 passes for 400 yards with three interceptions.  Freshman running back Kai Smith leads the ground game with 61 yards on seven carries with one touchdown. Senior All-OAC wide receiver  Lathan Jones leads the receiving corps with six catches for 110 yards. Defensively, senior defensive back Na'Zere Neal leads the team and is tied for ninth in the OAC with seven tackles.

Kicking Clinic
Sophomore placekicker and punter Joseph Evans (Chardon) put on a kicking clinic in BW's victory over Wittenberg.  Evans converted 3-of-3 extra points, a 30-yard field goal and booted eight punts for 359 yards with a career-long of 68-yards.  He tallied six punts inside the 20-yard line, including two that pinned the Tigers on their own 1-yard line.  For his efforts, Evans was named the BW Shrine Classic Player of the Game and this week's OAC Special Teams Player of the  Week.

Bold & Gold Weekend
BW will host its Bold and Gold Weekend on September 27 and 28.  The Homecoming game features BW and the University of Mount Union on Saturday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m.

Hall of Fame Game
BW will induct the 2024 members of its Athletics Alumni Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 12 prior to the Ohio Athletic Conference game between BW and Otterbein University at 1:30 p.m. The newest inductees will be introduced to the Finnie Stadium crowd between the first and second quarters.
