Today's Contest
Today is the third game of the 2024 season, the second road contest, and the second Ohio Athletic Conference game for the Baldwin Wallace University football team as it travels Bexley to take on Capital University. BW won its OAC opener and first road game of the season last Saturday as it defeated Wilmington College by a final score of 42-7. Capital opened its season last Saturday as it fell to Catholic (D.C.) University on the road by a final score of 38-20.
The Series
BW and Capital are meeting for the 55th time on the gridiron. The Yellow Jackets hold a 42-12 series lead, including winning the last six contests and 10 of the last 11 meetings. The series began in 1928 when Capital defeated BW, 19-0, in Bexley. Capital's last victory in was in 2016 when it posted a 42-41 overtime victory as the Yellow Jackets 2-point conversion for the victory came up short.
BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert
Hilvert is in his eight season at BW and has a record of 44-20 and Ohio Athletic Conference slate of 38-18. He is 111-46 in his 16th overall season. Hilvert is 6-0 all-time versus Capital.
Capital Head Coach Brian Foos
Foos, who is in his fifth season at Capital, is no stranger to BW as he served as offensive coordinator on Hilvert's staff from 2016-18. Foos has an overall record of 3-32 and an OAC mark of 2-29. He is 0-4 against Baldwin Wallace as the Yellow Jackets and Comets did not play in the COVID-19 shortened season of 2021 spring.

BW scored 59 points on 421 yards rushing and 249 yards passing for 670 total yards. Capital scored 35 points on 296 yards passing and 63 yards rushing for 296 total yards.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week two of the season, BW scored 47 points on 297 yards passing and 271 yards rushing for 568 total yards. Wilmington scored seven points on 162 yards passing and 57 yards rushing for 219 total yards.
BW Leaders
Offensively, sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) has completed 44-of-56 passes for an OAC third best 486 yards and OAC leading six touchdowns and one interception. Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) leads the ground game with 124 yards on 26 carries. Senior wideout Oliver Kelleher (Hobe Sound, Fla./Marian County) and senior Vinny Lomeo (East Amherst, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) lead the team and tied for third in the league with nine receptions and tied for second in the conference wit two touchdowns. Kelleher has 142 yards while Lomeo has 130. Defensively, junior linebacker Dom Tromba (Painesville/Riverside) and senior defensive back Alden Steele (Lorain/Amherst) lead the team and are tied for ninth in the OAC with 11 tackles. Senior All-OAC defensive lineman Jordan Smith (Painesville/Riverside) and sophomore defensive lineman JD Crouse (North Lima/South Range) led the team and are tied for second in the league with two quarterback sacks.
Scouting the Comets
In week one of the season, Capital scored 20 points on 312 yards passing, 21 yards rushing for 333 total yards. Catholic scored 38 points on 291 yards passing, 98 yards rushing for 389 total yards.
Capital Leaders
Offensively, senior Ben Owens has completed 30-of-42 passes for 312 yards with three touchdowns. Junior running back Trevor Shook leads the rushing attack with 23 yards on six carries. Junior All-OAC wide out Nate Younker leads the receiving corps with seven catches for 92 yards with one touchdown.
Twice as Nice
For the second straight week, BW has had a student-athlete named as an OAC Player of the Week. Bubonics earned his first career honor after passing for a career-high 312 yards on 24-of-30 with a career-best four touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown.
Bold & Gold Weekend
BW will host its Bold and Gold Weekend on September 27 and 28. The Homecoming game features BW and the University of Mount Union on Saturday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m.
Hall of Fame Game
BW will induct the 2024 members of its Athletics Alumni Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 12 prior to the Ohio Athletic Conference game between BW and Otterbein University at 1:30 p.m. The newest inductees will be introduced to the Finnie Stadium crowd between the first and second quarters.
