Petrella Becomes All-Time Winningest Men’s Wrestler, No. 5 Jackets Defeat No. 15 Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – Senior All-American and No. 1 nationally ranked 157-pounder Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) became the school's all-time wins leader as the No. 5 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team defeated No. 15 nationally ranked Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match by a final score of 21-16 inside the ONU Sports Center.

Petrella now has a career record of 137-4.  The two-time defending 149-pound NCAA Division III Champion has won 98 straight matches dating back to the 2022 NCAA Championships finals. 

BW (11-4, 6-0 OAC), who won six of 10 matches, claimed a share of the OAC regular season title for the fifth straight season.  Ohio Northern (15-7, 5-1 OAC) won four matches.

  • 125-pounds:  Freshman Dorian Hoffman (Luzerne, Pa./Wyoming Valley) won a 5-0 decision
  • 133-pounds:  Senior All-American and No. 4 nationally ranked Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.) won a 7-1 decision
  • 141-pounds:  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Robby Palmieri (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) loss a 10-0 major decision to No. 1 nationally ranked Jacob Reed
  • 149-pounds:  Junior Manny Scordos (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) loss a 15-6 major decision
  • 157-pounds:  M. Petrella won an 18-3 technical fall
  • 165-pounds:  Sophomore All-OAC and No. 5 nationally ranked Andrew Supers (Medina) won a 13-3 major decision
  • 174-pounds:  Senior All-OAC Carter Lloyd (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) loss a 6-3 decision
  • 184-pounds:  Junior Academic All-OAC Remington Bauer (Norwalk/Edison) won a 9-4 decision
  • 197-pounds:  Senior Academic All-OAC and No. 8 nationally ranked Joey Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) won 2-0 decision over No. 15 nationally ranked Gavin Layman
  • 285-pounds:  Sophomore Angelo Camargo (Brook Park/St. Ignatius) loss a 19-4 technical fall to No. 13 nationally ranked Myles Johnson

  • 165-pounds:  Senior All-OAC Donovan Palmer (North Ridgeville/Lutheran West) loss a 16-6 major decision
  • 174-pounds:  Senior Brandon Burkhart (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) won a 15-10 decision

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, February 4 when they host an OAC match against Otterbein University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7 p.m.

The 38th John Summa Invitational will be held on Saturday, February 8 in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse at 10 a.m.
