Men's Soccer Wins Second Consecutive Game Over Heidelberg

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated Heidelberg University by a score of 3-2 inside Tressel Field at George Finnie Stadium to inch ever so closer to earning a spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament next week.

BW (7-11-1, 3-4 OAC) won the game in the second half. Goals in the first half were scored by freshman forward Gavin Nixon (Irvine, Calif/Orange Lutheran). Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Midfielder Owen Reyes (North Olmsted). Nate Usrey (Brecksville/Broadview Heights) scored the game winner with seven minutes to play to seal the deal against the Student Princes (2-15, 0-7 OAC).

BW Leaders 

  • Reyes, Nixon and Usrey each led the team on offense by scoring the three BW goals

  • Nixon led the Yellow Jackets by taking seven shots

  • Nixon and Reyes each had three shots on goal in addition to their goal, which led the team

  • Sophomore defender Brady Brown (Muskegon, Mich./Fruitport) led the contribution category of assists with one in the first half to Nixon's goal

  • Junior goalkeeper Diego Teran (Exton, Pa./Henderson) was the goalkeeper for the Brown and Gold and he saved two shots

  • BW took 27 shots to lead both teams in this category, with Heidelberg only having nine shots

  • BW had five corner kicks and the Student Princes had three

Heidelberg Leaders

  • Forwards Nate Eagan and Logan Honniball each had one goal to lead the Student Princes' offense

  • Midfielder Kaiden Reed had the only assist for Heidelberg which came on the Eagan goal

  • Eagan and forward Inigo Focinos led the way with two shots each for the Student Princes; with Eagan having both on goal

  • Goalkeeper Mikael Paulson had six saves and allowed three goals in the team's loss to the Yellow Jackets

First Half (BW 2-0)

  • 18:28 - The Yellow Jackets got on the board first by a goal that Nixon put in low-left with Brown coming in on the assist to get a 1-0 lead

  • 25:44 - Reyes scored a little bit more than seven minutes after Nixon to extend the lead to 2-0 heading into halftime which was unassisted

Second Half (BW 2-1)

  • 53:36 - Eagan connected for Heidelberg left-middle to cut the Yellow Jacket lead in half and Reed came in on the assist 

  • 78:55 - Honniball scored a goal with just over 11 minutes to play to tie the game at two and BW surrendered its two-goal lead they had at the half

  • 82:42 - Usrey responded to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 lead marking the second consecutive game in which BW has won on a go-ahead goal in the final minutes
