Usrey Notches First Career Collegiate Goal as Men's Soccer Wins Second Straight Game in OAC Opener Against Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team won their second straight game to open Ohio Athletic Conference play at Bernlohr Stadium against Capital University by a score of 1-0. 

The difference in the game was in the first half when junior forward Nate Usrey (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) connected for his first career collegiate goal. It is the Yellow Jackets' second straight shutout, and their third of 2025.

BW Leaders (5-6-1, 1-0 OAC)

  • Usrey led the Brown and Gold for the only goal of the game, with it being his only shot either on goal or attempted the entirety of the contest

  • Senior Academic All-OAC midfielder Mathew Skladany (Cleveland/St. Edward) and junior midfielder Braden Lamb (Cleveland/ Lutheran West) dished out the assist in Usrey's goal

  • Junior midfielder Cimi Halilaj (Westlake) led BW by taking three shots, with one of them being on the target

  • Junior goalkeeper David Teran (Exton, Pa./Henderson) recorded two saves in 90 minutes of play

  • The Yellow Jackets led the shots total by a margin of nine, 12-3

  • BW was successful in leading shots on goal by two, 4-2

Capital Leaders (1-7-1, 0-1 OAC)

  • Capital was led by senior Tony Epstein, senior Noah Baer, and junior Wassim Metatla each recording one shot

  • Senior Noah Baer and junior Wassim Metatla led the Comets by each taking one shot on goal

  • Senior Ethan Ogden recorded three saves for the Comets

First Half (BW 1-0)

  • 30:53 - Usrey connected low and left in a scramble to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead; assisted by Lamb and Skladany and enough to give them a one-goal lead at the break

Second Half (BW 1-0)

  • Both teams were scoreless in the second half with BW dominating in shots by a margin of 9-1 and the shots on goal margin 3-1, also in favor of the Brown and Gold
