Women’s Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to Ohio Northern in OAC Tournament First Round

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team, led by Head Coach Kate Latkovic, fell to the Ohio Northern Polar Bears 2-3 in the first round of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament inside Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets started the match how they wanted to with an opening set victory of 25-18. Ohio Northern battled back to take the second set 25-21, showing they would not go down without a fight. The Polar Bears stole the energy out of Ursprung Gymnasium in the third set as they maintained their momentum for a 25-17 victory. BW regrouped knowing that it would mean going the distance if they wanted to survive. A 25-13 commanding victory showed that the Jackets were driven to continue their season. In the fifth set, BW started at a 0-4 deficit and took a timeout. They reached the mid-set side switch with an 8-7 lead. Unfortunately, they went cold and lost the last set 15-8.

No. 4 BW Leaders
  • Yellow Jacket Women's Athlete of the Month, senior setter Katarina Blazetic (DeLand, Fla.), made 38 assists, 10 digs, and a block in her final match as a Yellow Jacket.
  • Junior right-side hitter Lexi Smith (Tiffin / Columbian) led the Yellow Jackets with 14 kills.
  • OAC Offensive Player of the Week Josie Lynn (Wabash, Ind. / Northfield) made three blocks to lead the team and tallied eight kills.
  • Senior libero/defensive specialist Paige Contris (Pemberville / Eastwood) had 21 digs to lead the team in her last match in Berea.
  • Academic All-OAC senior Ella Rogers (Painesville / Mentor) had a team-best .500 hitting percentage with seven kills to end her collegiate career.

  • Olivia Baumann led the Polar Bears with 15 kills.
  • Madelyn Banks had four aces to lead the team.
  • Summer Hoying made a team-leading 22 digs.
  • Ella Hoying contributed 28 assists to lead the Polar Bears to victory.
