BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season over Hiram College in a non-conference matchup, 76-58, in Ursprung Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets had four players score over double-digits in the win.
BW Leaders (1-5)
- Junior forward Isaac Richardson (Avon Lake/Avon Lake) led the Yellow Jackets in points and rebounds with 14 and seven, respectively
- Junior forward AJ Pestello (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) notched 13 points and three assists
- Freshman guard Josh Byers (Strongsville/Strongsville) scored 13 points and added two steals
- Junior Academic All-OAC guard Titus Baskerville IV (Stow-Munroe Falls) dropped 10 points and dished out a game-high seven assists
- The Yellow Jackets had 36 points in the paint to best the Terriors, 36-32
Hiram Leaders (3-2)
- Senior wing Brock Makrancy led the Terriers with 10 points and four rebounds
- Junior guard Jack Agema scored nine points and added three assists
- Senior guard Dushawn Hill led the team with five assists
First Half (BW 40-28)
- Byers opened the scoring with a layup in the first minute
- Hiram grinded out a 15-12 lead in the first 6:05, scoring 14 points on layups
- BW went on a remarkable 21-2 run in the next 8:38 of the game, led by Baskerville's eight points
- Hiram climbed back with an 8-2 run, but BW managed to extend their lead to 12 with a three from Byers
- BW lit it up from deep in the first half, making seven of 14 threes for a 50 percent total
- The Brown and Gold out-rebounded the Terriers 12-9, leading to seven second chance points
Second Half (BW 76-58)
- Senior guard Dushawn Hill made a layup at 17:44 for the first points of the half
- BW began the half on a 16-7 run, going 7-8 from the field
- Hiram responded with a 12-2 run of their own, led by seven points by Makrancy
- BW increased their lead back up to 22 with a 18-7 run, led by Pestello and Richardson with six points each
- BW led for the entire second half
- BW took care of the ball and had zero turnovers the entire 2nd half
