Today's Contest
Today's matchup carries major implications in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) standings, as Baldwin Wallace and Ohio Northern battle to stay in the hunt for both the NCAA Division III Playoffs and Opendorse Bowl Series contention. This game marks the ninth contest of the 2025 season, the seventh in OAC play, and the final road game of the year for the Yellow Jackets. BW enters riding a four-game winning streak, most recently earning a hard-fought 35–28 victory over Muskingum University last Saturday in New Concord. Ohio Northern comes in with momentum of its own after edging Mount St. Joseph University, 49–42, last weekend in Ada.
 
The Series
BW and Ohio Northern are meeting for the 50th time on the gridiron. The Yellow Jackets hold a 34-14-1 advantage in the all-time series. BW has won 11 of the last 16 meetings. The Polar Bears won the first meeting in 1923 by a final score of 20-13. 
 
BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert
Hilvert is in his ninth season at BW and has a record of 56-24 and Ohio Athletic Conference slate of 47-22. He is 123-43 in his 16th overall season. Hilvert is 4-2 all-time against Ohio Northern.
 
Ohio Northern Head Coach Andy Fries
Fries is in his second season at Ohio Northern and has a record of 11-7 and an OAC mark of 9-6. He is 0-1 all-time against BW.
 
Last Game vs. Ohio Northern – November 9, 2024
BW scored 27 points on 183 yards passing and 105 yards rushing for 288 total yards. Ohio Northern scored 26 points on 282 yards rushing and 36 yards passing for 318 yards.  The Yellow Jackets trailed 20-7 early in the third quarter before scoring 20 unanswered points to take the 27-20 lead with five minutes remaining.  The Polar Bears scored a touchdown with 1:02 left but the 2-point conversion failed.
 
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week eight of the season, BW scored 35 points on 237 yards passing and season-low 166 yards rushing for 403 total yards.  Muskingum scored 28 points on 229 yards passing and 99 yards rushing for 328 total yards.
 
BW Leaders
Offensively, sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) has completed 141-of-227 passes for 1,631 yards with 20 touchdowns and one interception.  Bubonics is second in the league in touchdowns, third in passing efficiency and third in yards. Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) leads the OAC with 1,004 yards and second touchdowns with 10. Linberger is third in carries with 153. Senior All-OAC wideout Tim Conwell (Avon) has 35 catches for 483 yards and is tied for the lead with seven touchdowns. Defensively, Nolan Hartsel (Lodi/Northwestern) is tied for third in the OAC with a career-best 67 tackles. Junior defensive back TJ Gibbons (Willoughby/Lake Catholic) is tied for the OAC lead with three interceptions.
 
Scouting the Polar Bears
In week seven of the season, Ohio Northern scored 49 points on 298 yards rushing and 160 yards passing for 458 total yards. Mount St. Joseph scored 42 points on 406 yards passing and eight yards rushing for 414 total yards.
 
Ohio Northern Leaders
Offensively, senior quarterback Sam Feldman has completed 132-of-215 passes for an OAC third best 1,761 yards with 13 touchdowns. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC running back Louie Blasiole has rushed for and OAC third best 897 yards on a league leading 193 carries with and conference leading 16 touchdowns.  Junior wide receiver Seth Borondy has caught an OAC third best 39 catches for a league fourth best 569 yards with four touchdowns.  Defensively, senior defensive back Cooper Braden has tallied 45 tackles.
 
Holding Steady in National Top 25
For the second straight week, Baldwin Wallace is making noise on the national stage. The Yellow Jackets earned spots in both major Division III polls, ranking No. 22 in the D3football.com Top 25 and No. 24 in the AFCA poll.
 
Lighting Up the Stat Sheet
BW ranks in the Top 25 nationally (out of 242 Division III teams) in six key categories: second in third-down percentage, 12th in rushing offense, tied for 10th in first downs per game, 20th in scoring offense, 25thth in passing defense and 25th in total offense.
 
Opendorse Bowl Series
The Opendorse Bowl Series features two games played on Saturday, November 22, showcasing the highest-ranked teams that did not qualify for the NCAA Division III Playoffs. The participating programs represent four conferences: the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, the North Coast Athletic Conference, the Ohio Athletic Conference, and the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
