BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team hosted the first home meet of the season, the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge, on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center.
BW placed second out of five participating teams with 77 points. Allegheny (Pa.) College won the meet with 87 points.
The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:
- Freshman Jameire Honzu (Warren / Harding) won the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.20. Honzu broke the facility record previously set at 8.24 by Melanie Winters in 2015.
- Senior All-American distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:17.55.
Field event highlights:
- Sophomore Rylee Gorrell (Grove City, Pa. / Grove City Area) won the high jump with a height of 1.56 meters.
- Freshman Morgan Riley (Bay Village / St. Joseph Academy) placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.00 meters.
- Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Emily Torres (Berea / Berea-Midpark) finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 15.18 meters. Torres also placed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 11.33 meters.
On the relay side:
- In the 4x400 relay squad, senior All-OAC sprinter Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman), Murphy, junior All-OAC sprinter Morgan Aloi (Sylvania / Northview) and Honzu broke the meet record after winning in a time of 4:06.58.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, Feb. 7 for the Dan Kinsey Invite (Oberlin College) and the Fourth Jud Logan Light Giver Open (Ashland University).
