AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team stands in fifth place after the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the Yellow Jackets inside the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
BW is fifth of six teams with 129 points. Defending champions and crosstown rival John University leads with 308 points.
Individuals
- Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC stroker Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate) earned his fourth career All-OAC honor as he finished third in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:52.94
- Senior All-OAC freestyler Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) finished sixth in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 4:44.36
- Junior freestyler Matias Cordero (Cuenca, Ecuador/ Joseph de Jussieu) took 10th in the 50-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 21.45
- Senior freestyler Luke Minick (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) was 12th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.84
- Senior Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas) took 13th in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:02.24
Relays
- The 200-yard freestyle squad of McQueary, Minick, senior Academic All-OAC freestyler Jack Kielmeyer (Westerville/South) and Cordero were fifth in a time of 1:25.63
- The 400-yard medley relay team of Kingsley, Tafoya, McQueary and Cordero placed fifth in a time of 3:31.28
- The 800-yard freestyle unit of Tafoya, junior freestyler Kevin Meyer (Mentor), senior freestyler Erik Tagg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and Kingsley took fifth on Wednesday night in a time of 7:20.91
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, February 14 when they host the second day of the OAC Championships. Prelims are slated to begin at 10 a.m. with finals to be contested at 6 p.m.
