AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team set one school record and stands in second place after the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the Yellow Jackets inside the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
BW is second of six teams with 206.5 points. Defending champions and crosstown rival John University leads with 321 points.
Individuals
- Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC stroker Mallory Dondorfer (Medina) earned her ninth career All-OAC honor as she was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 2:10.36
- Freshman freestyler Amelia Wands (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) earned her first All-OAC honor as she finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 24.71
- Junior stroker Mallory Upcraft (Oswego, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 2:14.64
- Freshman freestyler Kate Harrington (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 24.73
- Sophomore All-OAC freestyler Melina Roberts (Westlake) placed sixth in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:26.34
- Freshman stroker Brooke Radcliffe (North Canton/Hoover) placed sixth in the 200-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 2:15.85
- Junior Academic All-OAC freestyler Ariel Lisy (Strongsville) was 11th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:35.65
- Sophomore freestyler Ashley Slife (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) was 12th in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:43.67
- Sophomore stroker Abby Marquardt (Pickerington/Central) took 14th in the 200-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 2:21.95
Relays
- The 200-yard freestyle squad of Wands, Radcliffe, Upcraft and Harrington earned All-OAC honors as they were the runner-up's in a school-record time of 1:38.61
- The 400-yard medley relay team of Radcliffe, Wands, Dondorfer and Upcraft earned All-OAC honors as they were the runner-up's in a school-record time of 4:05.35
- The 800-yard freestyle unit of Dondorfer, Slife, Roberts and Upcraft finished third on Wednesday night in a time of 8:03.90
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, February 14 when they host the second day of the OAC Championships. Prelims are slated to begin at 10 a.m. with finals to be contested at 6 p.m.
