WHEELING, W. Va. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule as it shutout Franciscan University in a non-conference match by a final score of 7-0 inside the Indoor Tennis Center at Wheeling Park.
BW (7-0) won three doubles matches and six singles matches over Franciscan (0-2). This season, the NCAA Division III tennis has adopted a new policy as doubles matches now account for one team point and not three points like in previous years.
Doubles
- Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) and junior Academic All-OAC Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) won at first doubles by a score 6-1
- Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Tyler Fenton (Williamstown, W. Va.) won at second doubles by a score of 6-2
- Junior Jacob Weingart (Tiffin/Columbian) and freshman Vinny Cannata (Aurora) won a third doubles by a score of 6-0
Singles
- McGee won at first singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2
- Horvath won at second singles by scores of 7-5 and 6-0
- Cannata won at third singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1
- Harders won at fourth singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-1
- Freshman Will Westberry (Niles, Mich./St. Joseph's {Ind.}) won at fifth singles by identical scores of 6-0
- Weingart won at sixth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, February 28 when they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania for a non-conference match against Penn State University at Behrend inside the Westwood Racquet Club at 7 p.m.
