Rector Wins 600th Career Match, Men's Tennis Defeats Penn State Behrend

ERIE, Pa. – Baldwin Wallace University Men's Tennis Head Coach Brian Rector won his 600th career match as BW secured its third straight and seventh shutout of the season as it defeated Penn State University at Behrend in a non-conference match by a final score of 7-0 at the Westwood Racquet Club.

Rector, who is in his 35th season at helm, now has a career mark of 600-133.   He is the winningest coach in the Ohio Athletic Conference and in Ohio Division III collegiate tennis history

The Yellow Jackets (8-0) won two doubles matches and all six singles matches.  Behrend (4-4) won one doubles match.   This season, the NCAA Division III tennis has adopted a new policy as doubles matches now account for one team point and not three points like in previous years.

Doubles
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) and junior Academic All-OAC Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) won at first doubles by a score 6-1
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Tyler Fenton (Williamstown, W. Va.) fell at second doubles by a score of 6-4
  • Junior Jacob Weingart (Tiffin/Columbian) and freshman Vinny Cannata (Aurora) won a third doubles by a score of 6-1
Singles
  • McGee won at first singles by scores of 6-3 and 7-6
  • Horvath won at second singles by identical scores of 6-1
  • Cannata won at third singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-4
  • Harders won at fourth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3
  • Freshman Will Westberry (Niles, Mich./St. Joseph's {Ind.}) won at fifth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-0
  • Weingart won at sixth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0
BW is back in action on Sunday, March 9 when it travels to Hilton Head South Carolina for its first non-conference match of their spring break trip against Drew (N.J.) University at Port Royal Racquet Club at 10 a.m.
