No. 11 Baseball Opens 2025 Season Against Wittenberg

WESTFIELD, Ind. - The No. 11 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team opened the 2025 season as they fell to Wittenberg University by a final score of 6-1 at the Grand Park Sports Campus.

Scoring Summary

  • Bottom 9th - Senior infielder Grant Mitchell (Avon) made his BW debut and drove in the Brown and Gold's only run with a pinch-hit single

At the Plate

  • Senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) led the team with two hits in his first game as a Yellow Jacket finishing 2-for-4
  • Sophomore third baseman Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) finished 1-for-2 with an infield single and drew a walk
  • Junior All-OAC center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) collected the season's first extra base hit with a double to left as he finished 1-for-3
  • Senior first baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) picked up right from where he left off last year by hitting a double in the gap and scoring the Jackets' lone run 
  • Mitchell went 1-for-1 with one RBI
  • Senior designated hitter Harrison Johnson (Mason/William Mason) and sophomore outfielder Connor Gromen (Columbia Station/St. Ignatius) each made their BW debuts
On the Mound
  • Junior All-OAC right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) got the Opening Day start and pitched four innings where he struck out four and allowed three runs on six hits and one walk
  • Sophomore All-OAC right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) followed with four innings in relief where he had a team-high six strikeouts and allowed one run on two hits and a walk
  • Freshman right-hander Brady Richman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) started the ninth in his collegiate debut where he struck out one batter and allowed two runs on two hits
  • Junior left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) came on to finish the ninth and faced two batters

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Monday, February 24 as they take on Hope (Mich.) College in a rescheduled non-conference game at 11 a.m. at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana.
