No. 11 Baseball Blows Out Hope (Mich.) For First Win of Season

WESTFIELD, Ind. - The No. 11 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team won its first game of the 2025 season as it defeated Hope (Mich.) College by a final score of 22-3 at the Grand Park Sports Campus.

BW (1-1) bounces back and picks up their first win by scoring 22 runs: the most in a game since scoring 25 during the 2022 season. The Brown and Gold also recorded 18 hits with 14 different Jackets contributing to the bats and 15 different Jackets contributing to the scoring.

Scoring Summary

  • Bottom 2nd - Junior All-OAC shortstop Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) got the scoring started with a fielder's choice
  • Bottom 2nd - Junior All-OAC center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) extended the lead with a two-run double
  • Bottom 3rd - Senior All-OAC designated hitter Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) hit the Jackets' first homer of the year with a solo shot
  • Bottom 3rd - Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) grounded out to the pitcher but it was enough to bring a run home
  • Bottom 3rd - Kolenich doubled to left for his second RBI of the day
  • Bottom 4th - Sophomore catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was walked with the bases loaded to pick up the RBI
  • Bottom 4th - Senior Academic All-OAC third baseman Noah English (Perrysburg) drew the second straight bases-loaded walk to put BW up 8-2
  • Bottom 4th - Terzola kept the inning alive with a two-run single
  • Bottom 6th - English scored another run for the Brown and Gold after a Hope balk
  • Bottom 6th - Ritlinger-Nirider hit a sac fly to center
  • Bottom 6th - Senior infielder Grant Mitchell (Avon) had a pinch-hit RBI double
  • Bottom 7th - Terzola notched his fourth RBI with a one-out single
  • Bottom 7th - Fixx scored on a Hope failed pickoff attempt
  • Bottom 8th - Senior first baseman Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) scored on a passed ball
  • Bottom 8th - Freshman third baseman Maddox Tarquinio (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) collected his first collegiate hit and RBI with a single
  • Bottom 8th - Sophomore infielder Jace Druschel (Tampa, Fla./George Steinbrenner) was credited the RBI with the team's third bases-loaded walk of the day
  • Bottom 8th - Junior outfielder John Panstares (Westlake/St. Ignatius) drilled a grand slam to put the Jackets up by 19 in his BW debut
At the Plate
  • Terzola finished 3-for-4 with a team-high five RBI and scored two runs
  • Panstares recorded four RBI with one swing of the bat and finished 1-for-2
  • Kolenich went 2-for-4 scoring two runs and driving in two runs
  • Sophomore right fielder Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) also collected two hits in his two at bats
  • Senior first baseman Harrison Johnson (Mason/William Mason) and Fixx each scored three runs and had one hit
On the Mound
  • Senior right-hander Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) picked up his first win as a Yellow Jacket where he tallied two strikeouts and allowed one earned run on six hits and one walk
  • Senior All-OAC right-hander Dylan Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) threw one inning and had one strikeout and gave up one hit
  • Senior All-OAC right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) pitched three innings to get the save as he allowed one run on four hits and added two strikeouts

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2 as they travel to Lexington, Kentucky to compete in a round-robin tournament hosted by Tranylvania (Ky.) University at Legends Stadium. On March 1, BW takes on Hope in a rematch at 11 a.m. and will then play Babson (Mass.) College at 10 a.m. and the host Transylvania at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.
