GRANVILLE, Ohio - The No. 21 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team opened the Granville Tournament hosted by No. 6 nationally ranked Denison University by defeating North Central (Ill.) College by a final score of 19-2 on Big Red Field.
Scoring Summary
- Top 1st - Senior All-OAC first baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) drove in a run with a sac fly and junior All-OAC shortstop Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) came in to score after a throwing error on the relay
- Top 2nd - Junior All-OAC centerfielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) executed the squeeze to score senior catcher Eric Coode (Painesville/Mentor)
- Top 2nd - Senior All-OAC left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) kept the bats going with an RBI single
- Top 2nd - Kolenich grounded out but was able to bring in another BW run
- Top 3rd - Ritlinger-Nirider hit a liner to center to put the Jackets up 7-0
- Top 3rd - Marousek drove in his second and third runs with another single
- Top 3rd - Kilbane scored two with his double to left
- Top 3rd - Sophomore third baseman Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) got in on the action and delivered an RBI single
- Top 3rd - Senior first baseman Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) stayed hot with a two run shot to left
- Top 5th - West tied a career-high two RBI with another single
- Top 5th - Kilbane swiped home after a passed ball
- Top 5th - Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) was the seventh BW starter to pick up an RBI with a two-out single
- Top 7th - Senior first baseman Harrison Johnson (Mason/William Mason) scored after another Cardinal miscue
- Top 9th - Sophomore third baseman Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) drove in the team's 19th and final run with a two-out single
At the Plate
- Marousek led the way going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored
- West and Kolenich each tallied three hits with two RBI and one RBI, respectively
- Kilbane and Ritlinger-Nirider each went 2-for-3 with three RBI and scoring two runs
- Terzola also added two hits with an RBI and a run scored
On the Mound
- Junior Academic All-OAC left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) picked up the win after throwing five scoreless innings where he struck out five and allowed five hits and four walks
- Sophomore right-hander Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) pitched two innings where he struck out four of the seven batters he faced and allowed one hit
- Freshman right-hander Brady Richman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) threw one inning where he struck out a career-high two batters and allowed two runs on two hits
- Freshman right-hander Trip Thaler (Kirtland) made his collegiate debut as he faced five batters in the ninth allowing only a walk and a hit
The Yellow Jackets are back in action Saturday, March 15 as they continue the Granville Tournament by taking on Adrian (Mich.) College at 12 p.m. in Big Red Stadium.
