BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 7 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team ended its record-breaking 2025 season as they fell to No. nationally ranked 11 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh by a final score of 60-53 in the NCAA Division III Elite Eight in the Shirk Center.
BW's (29-2) miraculous comeback and bid for a spot the 2025 Final Four fell just short after trailing by as much as 17 points as the Yellow Jackets were able to cut the lead down to just three points with four minutes left in regulation. The Brown and Gold, led by seniors Sadie Arend, Emily Irwin, Alek Johnson, Caely Ressler, and Bella Vaillant, close the best season in program history that included BW's ninth Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament title, 12th OAC regular season title, a perfect 18-0 record in conference play, and a program record 29-game win streak. Wisconsin-Oshkosh (27-4) advances to the Final Four on Thursday, March 20 at the Cregger Center in Salem, Virginia.
BW Leaders
- Senior All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) tied a team-high 12 points with three rebounds
- Senior All-OAC forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) finished her outstanding postseason with 12 points and six rebounds
- Senior All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) had a game-high eight rebounds and scored seven points
- Sophomore guard Kayla Jones (Grove City) recorded a game-high three blocks and scored 10 points shooting 4-of-5 from the field including two three-pointers
Wisconsin-Oshkosh Leaders
- Sophomore guard Sammi Beyer scored a game-high 18 points
- Senior forward Kayce Vaile added 14 points and six rebounds
- Junior forward Sarah Hardwick grabbed a team-high seven rebounds
1st Quarter (UWO 21-9)
- The Titans got out to a 17-2 lead but BW was able to close the quarter on a 7-4 run
- Vaillant scored five points and notched three of the team's seven rebounds
2nd Quarter (UWO 35-21)
- Irwin drained her two three-pointers to spark the momentum for the Jackets
- Jones recorded two of her three blocks, scored two points, and added one assist
3rd Quarter (UWO 43-34)
- Ressler and Jones each grabbed three boards to lead BW's 11-7 effort on the glass
- Junior Academic All-OAC guard/forward Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) picked up her game-high third assist on a Jones three
4th Quarter (UWO 60-53)
- Ressler scored her seven points including a jumper to make it a three-point game at the 4:44 mark
- Vaillant kept BW in it down the stretch with two much-needed layups including one with 11 seconds left to cut the Oshkosh lead down to three
