No. 11 Baseball Battles Babson (Mass.) and Transylvania (Ky.) in Road Doubleheader

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The No. 11 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team closed the Transylvania (Ky.) University tournament as they fell to Babson (Mass.) College by a final score of 5-4 and defeated the host Transylvania by a final score of 10-1 at Legends Stadium.

Scoring Plays

  • Bottom 1st - Senior designated hitter Harrison Johnson (Mason/William Mason) doubled to the gap to strike first for the Yellow Jackets
  • Bottom 1st - Junior All-OAC shortstop Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) hit an RBI single to give BW an early 2-0 lead
  • Bottom 4th - The Brown and Gold regained the lead with an RBI double from junior All-OAC center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City)
  • Bottom 7th - Senior designated hitter Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) got one run back for the Jackets with a ground-rule double

At the Plate

  • Senior All-OAC first baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) collected two hits and scored two runs
  • Senior All-OAC left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) was the last Jacket with a hit going 1-for-3
  • Kolenich finished 2-for-4 with one RBI

On the Mound

  • Senior right-hander Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) had another strong outing as he threw six innings and allowed two runs on five hits and tallied seven strikeouts
  • Sophomore All-OAC right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) gets credited with the loss after allowing two earned runs on two hits and three walks but striking out five through his three innings of work

  • Top 1st - Senior right fielder Brandon Gelpi (Monroeville, Pa./Central Catholic) got the scoring started with an RBI single
  • Top 1st - Zinn stayed hot with an RBI single to left
  • Top 1st - Gelpi took advantage of a Pioneer passed ball to make it a three-run first
  • Top 3rd - Senior Academic All-OAC catcher Eric Coode (Painesville/Mentor) recorded his first career hit and RBI to add to the BW lead
  • Top 3rd - Freshman third baseman Maddox Tarquinio (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) put the ball in play and reached on an error while Zinn came into score
  • Top 6th - Kilbane drove in Ritlinger-Nirider with the bases loaded and then advanced to second after another Transylvania miscue
  • Top 7th - Ritlinger-Nirider hit one up the middle to drive in another run
  • Top 9th - Junior Academic All-OAC shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) reached on a fielder's choice allowing a run to score
  • Top 9th - Kilbane added to the damage with an RBI single
  • Top 9th - Senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) picked up an RBI with a pinch-hit single

At the Plate

  • Kilbane led the offense with three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored
  • Coode had a career-high day going 2-for-4 with an RBI
  • Terzola also scored two runs to tie a team-high

On the Mound

  • Senior All-OAC right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) threw seven shutout innings where he struck out five and allowed no walks and five hits
  • Senior All-OAC right-hander Dylan Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) pitched the final two innings where he had three strikeouts and allowed one run on two hits and two walks

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Saturday, March 8 as they travel to Lexington, South Carolina to open their annual spring break trip by taking on Swarthmore (Pa.) College at 12 p.m. at Lexington County Stadium.
