Baseball Combines for 28 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team swept Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader by final scores of 17-2 and 11-1 at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.

Game 1

Scoring Plays

  • Top 2nd - Sophomore third baseman Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) launched one to left center for his second straight game with a homer
  • Top 3rd - Senior All-OAC left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) collected his first RBI of the day with a two-out single
  • Top 3rd - Marousek stole second as sophomore designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored on the throw down
  • Top 4th - Junior All-OAC center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) singled down the line as senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) came around to score 
  • Top 5th - Petrecca hit a sac fly to make it 5-0 Jackets
  • Top 5th - Carinci picked up an RBI single for his second hit of the day
  • Top 5th - Sophomore catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) continues to punish the ball with his first home run of the season
  • Top 6th - Senior third baseman Grant Mitchell (Avon) singled while Marousek took advantage of a Quaker error
  • Top 6th - Senior right fielder Brandon Gelpi (Monroeville, Pa./Central Catholic) singled up the middle to give BW a 10-run lead
  • Top 6th - Ritlinger-Nirider drove in his first run of the day
  • Top 6th - Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) doubled down the line with the bases loaded to score two
  • Top 7th - Senior first baseman Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) hit a pinch-hit sac fly
  • Top 7th - Mitchell scored on a ball put in play by senior Academic All-OAC shortstop Noah English (Perrysburg)
  • Top 8th - Freshmen outfielders Cody Martin (Reynoldsburg) and Mario Escano (Broadview Heights/North Royalton) both reached on errors but were each able to bring in a run

On the Mound

  • Senior All-OAC right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif/Windward School) pitched seven three-hit innings where he struck out a game-high seven batters on his way to his third win of the season
  • Sophomore right-hander Will Henderlich (Madison) threw one inning where he faced four batters and tallied one strikeout 
  • Junior All-OAC right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) pitched the ninth where he allowed two runs on three hits and had one strikeout

Game 2

Scoring Plays

  • Top 1st - Marousek opened his big game with a bases loaded RBI single
  • Top 1st - Petrecca flew out to center for the sacrifice
  • Top 2nd - Marousek drove in two with another single with the bases juiced
  • Top 2nd - Senior All-OAC first baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) scored after a Wilmington error
  • Top 3rd - Fixx made it a two-homer day after smacking one over the wall in left center
  • Top 3rd - Junior All-OAC shortstop Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) doubled down the left field line for his first RBI of the day
  • Top 7th - Kilbane singled up the middle to get a run back for the Jackets
  • Top 7th - Kilbane scored on the first of two balks for the Quakers
  • Top 8th - Sophomore outfielder Connor Gromen (Columbia Station/St. Ignatius) drove in another BW run with a fielder's choice
  • Top 9th - Another Wilmington balk allowed Zinn to score

On the Mound

  • Junior Academic All-OAC left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) continues to dominate on the mound after allowing only one run on four hits with eight strikeouts through six innings
  • Senior right-hander Mason Decker (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) struck out a career-high two batters in his inning pitched
  • Senior right-hander Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) faced only three batters and had one strikeout
  • Sophomore All-OAC right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) also retired the side in the ninth to secure a BW victory
