LEXINGTON, S.C. - The No. 16 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to Case Western Reserve University by a final score of 8-3 in the Spartan Southern Classic at Lexington County Stadium.
Scoring Summary
- Top 3rd - Sophomore third baseman Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) picked up his first hit and RBI as a Yellow Jacket with a double to the right field gap
- Top 4th - Senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) tied it up with an RBI double to left
- Top 7th - Petrecca grounded out but was able to bring in another run for the Jackets
At the Plate
- Carinci led the team with two hits and added an RBI and a steal
- Petrecca drove in a team-high two RBI on one hit
- Senior first baseman Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) had a pinch-hit double and scored the final run for the Jackets
- Junior All-OAC center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) was the last Jacket to provide a hit with a two-out double in the seventh
- Junior All-OAC shortstop Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) and senior All-OAC left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) each scored a run
On the Mound
- Senior right-hander Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) went five innings where he struck out six and allowed six earned runs on seven hits
- Freshman right-hander Carson Wilcox (Dublin/Coffman) made his collegiate debut by retiring three straight including his first BW strikeout in one inning of work
- Senior right-hander Mason Decker (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) made his season debut where he faced five batters and allowed one walk
- Junior left-hander Nolan Kellicker (Dover) pitched two thirds of the eighth inning where he allowed one run on two hits
- Freshman left-hander Tyler Vogel (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) also made his collegiate debut where he struck out his only batter faced to finish the eighth
The Yellow Jackets are back in action Monday, March 10 as they continue their spring break trip by taking on Ithaca (N.Y.) College at 3:30 p.m. at Lexington County Stadium.
